Are you going to use a fresh turkey or a frozen turkey? Tip number one, a frozen bird takes longer than you think to thaw; don't try to cook a frozen turkey. If turkey is still frozen leave it wrapped and place in a bathtub of water to thaw....Been there done that and I do not recommend the experience. Ok the turkey is thawed and ready to cook…….there is “stuff” in the chest cavity……remove it before you place the turkey in the oven. Checkout our Facebook page; http://www.facebook.com/pages/Richmond-VA/Boutique-Affair/108388402545706, for some interesting turkey recipes. The burning question of the day…..is it called Stuffing or Dressing? Answer: it is stuffing in the bird and dressing when it is not in the bird. I have done both methods….out of the bird is much easier. Tip number two, if you choose to do out of the bird you can prepare different flavors or styles. Guess where there is a great link to stuffing recipes? You guessed it our Facebook page! Side dishes are where you can bring a creative flare to your meal. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Pumpkin can be used for more than pie checkout this link; http://www.pumpkinrecipes.org/black-bean-and-roasted-pumpkin-salad.html. Menu set, now on to the wine, I love a nice Gewürztraminer, it is a wonderful compliment to the turkey; thank you Carol for teaching me this pairing! Now on to the tablescape, I love a solid table cloth in a strong autumn color…burnt orange is a favorite……with lots of natural accessories. Tip number three, a 20’ x 20’ tent can provide seating for 32 people if your dining room is too small that is 4 tables of 8 guest using 5’ rounds. Tip number four, make a list of all your holiday dinner needs and get your shopping done this weekend. You do not repeat do not want to be there on Tuesday or worse yet Wednesday. Tip number five, set the table on Monday or Tuesday it takes the pressure off……because the cooking has to be done more last minute. Not enough place setting, mix and match for a causal effect or rent matching settings from a local rental company for a more formal effect. They can also help you if you need the tent or an extra table or chairs. Tip six, a good relationship with a rental vendor is so important to successful event planning. Tip number seven, enjoy your guests and be thankful for all that you have this holiday season. Remember none of your guest know what plan A is, so whether you are on plan A, B or even Z you are the only person who knows so just be flexible and it will all work out for the best. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from Boutique Affair.
All my best,
Jill
